Whitetip Reef Shark

We really don’t want to catch Whitetips. There is a pecking order on the reef and big cubera snapper are at the top. A big cubera will feed first and lesser species like a whitetip have to get in line. A heavy bodied Cubera will pummel a whitetip, bitting him in the gills. If a white tip gets hooked up, chances are there are no big cuberas feeding on this spot.

If you catch one, you’re likely to hook another. They don’t fight worth a damn, plus they appear to really suffer at the side of the boat and it's hard to get the hook out. This shark is best for viewing while out snorkeling, they are everywhere, looking cool on the reefs.
